Bliss

In this highly acclaimed Canadian production of Bliss, an oracle stands in a Walmart lunch room and directs three fellow employees in a wild and slippery fantasy taken from the pages of a tabloid.

'SEE YOU LATER, CELINE,' reads a headline. What's wrong with Celine? Why is she turning her back on her glamorous life and adoring fans? And how is her story connected to the story that sits on the opposite page: a complete unknown abused by her family? The truth is, the two stories aren't related in the least. Until Oracle intervenes, that is. This darkly surrealist theatricalization of sensationalist press stories about Gods and monsters is the ultimate revenge: ours, and yours, too.

Bliss, version anglaise de la pièce Félicité d'Olivier Choinière - qui a connu un succès fulgurant lors de sa création en français à La Licorne en 2007 - a été traduite par l'auteure britannique Caryl Churchill (Top Girls) et a d'abord été montée au Royal Court Theatre à Londres en 2008. Dans cette première production canadienne-anglaise de Bliss, Steven McCarthy, metteur en scène de la compagnie torontoise Candles are for Burning, réunit des comédiens et des concepteurs francophones et anglophones et donne à cette odyssée hallucinée des accents de concert pop.
