The Speaking Tent

O9102

In the "speaking tent" ritual widely practised by the Ojibwa, Innu and Cree, medicine-men communicate with the invisible spirit world. Set in a fictional post-apocalyptic future, The Speaking Tent as envisioned by Emi Honda and Jordan McKenzie invents a new language inspired by chaos theory as observed in nature. Composed of looped images and sound samples, this multimedia installation incorporates urban objects, miniature rotating sculptures and deconstructed and reconstructed technology. Accompanied by a multilingual narrative soundtrack—in English, French, Japanese and Cree—this performative installation is manipulated on-site by these new contemporary shamans.
