Ayrad

Récipiendaire du Prix de la diversité 2012, Ayad explore un foisonnement de styles musicaux. Des pièces festives qui tirent leur vitalité des sons créés par les rythmes andalous, berbères et flamenco couplés aux grooves reggae, latin et chaabi marocain. Le sextuor se distingue par sa poésie et ses mélodies émouvantes et inspirantes qui font la part belle à l'improvisation. Le collectif interprète un matériel original et des reprises du répertoire maghrébin, arabo-andalou ou juif-marocain. Ayad est né de la rencontre du compositeur et chanteur Hanza Abouabelmaij et de la hautboïste Annick Beauvais auquels se sont joints quatre multi-instrumentistes - Anit Ghost, Kattam Laraki-Côté, Bertil Schulrabe et Cédric Dind-Lavoie - connus pour leur parfaite maîtrise des musiques d'inspiration orientale ou encore des musiques du monde métissées. Finaliste en 2012 au concours Mon accès à la scène, la formation a offert quelques représentations montréalaises, notamment au Théâtre Plaza en première partie du groupe Bambara Trans.

Le Prix de la diversité récompense un artiste ou un collectif d'artistes du domaine de la musique du monde et issus de la diversité culturelle montréalaise. En collaboration avec le Conseil des arts de Montréal, CBC Montréal, la Place des Arts et Vision Diversité.

The recipient of the 2012 Diversity Award, Ayrad explores a range of musical styles through festive pieces that draw their vitality from the sounds of Andalusian, Berber and flamenco rhythms joined with reggae, Latin and Moroccan chaabi grooves. This sextet stands out for its poetry and inspirational melodies in which improvisation plays a large role. The collective plays original material and standards from the Maghreb, Arabic Andalusian and Jewish Moroccan repertoire. Ayrad is the brainchild of composer / singer Hanza Abouabelmaij and oboist Annick Beauvais, who are joined by four multi-instrumentalists - Anit Ghost, Kattam Laraki-Côté, Bertil Schulrabe and Cédric Dind-Lavoie - known for their perfect mastery of Eastern-inspired and hybrid world music. A finalist in the 2012 Mon accès à la scène competition, the group has performed in Montreal, most notably at the Plaza theatre as the opening act for the group Bambara Trans.

The Diversity Award is awarded to an artist or a collective working within the parameters of world music and who are a part or many of Montreal's cultural communities. This annual award is presented in partnership with the Conseil des arts de Montréal, CBC Montreal, Place des Arts and Vision Diversité.
