En grande première québécoise.

Après Field (Land is the belly of man) proposée au MAI en 2004, Alvin Erasga Tolentino nous revient avec un deuxième solo présenté en première montréalaise. Véritable épopée multisensorielle, l'oeuvre de danse-théâtre Colonial jette un pont entre le passé colonisé d'un peuple et son ethnicité contemporaine.

Inspiré du livre Pasyon and Revolution: Popular Movements in the Philippines, 1840-1910 de Reynaldo Clemena Ileto, Colonial est également une adaptation libre et fantaisiste de l'histoire des Philippines revisitée par l'imprévisible et fascinant chorégraphe Alvin Erasga Tolentino. Combattants révolutionnaires et prêtresses babaylanes peuplent ce nouveau territoire de création. Mis en scène par Dennis Gupa, Colonial est une production multimédia appuyée par les saisissantes projections vidéographiques réalisées par Jon Lasam.

Vétéran de la scène internationale, Alvin Erasga Tolentino est également fondateur et directeur de la compagnie CO.ERASGA Dance. Acclamées sur tous les continents, ses performances hybrides explorent la culture asiatique et les enjeux identitaires de la société contemporaine occidentale. Fondée en 2000, CO.ERASGA Dance compte une dizaine d'oeuvres à son répertoire dont Expose (2011), Shadow Machine (2010) et She Said (2004). Outre ses créations scéniques, Tolentino a conçu cinq films et vidéos de danse, dont SOLA, récipiendaire en 2002 du « Grand Prix Vidéo » de la Compétition internationale de l'Unesco. Né à Manille, aux Philippines, Alvin Erasga Tolentino réside à Vancouver depuis 1983.

Following Field (Land Is the Belly of Man), presented at the MAI in 2004, Alvin Erasga Tolentino returns with a second solo piece, Colonial, a Montreal premiere. A veritable multi-sensory epic, this work of dance-theatre bridges a people's colonised past and its contemporary ethnicity.

Inspired by Reynaldo Clemena Ileto's book Pasyon and Revolution: Popular Movements in the Philippines, 1840-1910, Colonial is also a free and whimsical adaptation of Philippine history, revisited by the fascinating and unpredictable choreographer Alvin Erasga Tolentino. Revolutionary combatants and babaylan priestesses people this new work. Directed by Dennis Gupa, Colonial is a multimedia production backed up by gripping video images created by Jon Lasam.

A veteran of the international scene, Alvin Erasga Tolentino is also the founder and director of the company CO.ERASGA Dance. Acclaimed on every continent, his hybrid performances explore Asian culture and questions of identity in contemporary Western society. Founded in 2000, CO.ERASGA Dance has nearly a dozen works in its repertoire, including Expose (2011), Shadow Machine (2010) and She Said (2004). In addition to his work for the stage, Tolentino has made five dance films and videos, including SOLA, which won the "Grand Prix Video" of the International UNESCO Competition.
